AN EMOTIONAL AND OVERWHELMING HONOUR FROM MY HOME TOWN OF PONTYPRIDD.
Two new names have been added to a public display at Pontypridd Museum which celebrates the extraordinary achievements of local people.
Writer Catrin Collier and tenor Stuart Burrows OBE have been included on the PONTYPRIDD and PROUD board at the town centre museum, and they were honoured at a ceremony hosted by town mayor Jayne Brencher. Catrin Collier, the pen name for Pontypridd-born writer Karen Watkins, is an acclaimed writer whose home town formed the scene of her 1992 work Pontyridd Hearts of Gold – which became a successful series of eight books and was adapted into a two-part television drama in 2003.
The town mayor said: “Pontypridd is honouring two people who have put the town on the world stage and remained proud of their roots.
“Stuart, from Cilfynydd remained a constant support of his home community and Karen Watkins has made enormous contribution to local schools and library.
“Both inspire young people and make us all proud of this town and it’s extraordinary heritage.
