Like many other authors, my rejections ran into double figures before I had my first novel accepted in 1990 by Random House. It was a crime boook, WITHOUT TRACE written as Katherine John. The following year I produced the first Catrin Collier novel HEARTS OF GOLD. These are some of the old photographs that have helped me with my research. The nurse is my grandmother Katherine John, the photographs were taken of the staff in the Graig Workhouse in December 1939. My grandmother is third from the right in the middle row.
